pH is high on Colorado's Front Range
This graph shows the soil pH of 94 sites. pH measures whether a soil is acidic or basic (alkaline).  Most of our sites are alkaline with a pH greater than 7.0, and about half of our sites are in the “Concerning” range, with a pH greater than 7.7.   Colorado’s Front Range is known for its alkaline soils.  Our high pH is partly why soil microbes have a much harder time in Colorado, and why improving our soil’s health takes longer here than in other parts of the country.
